Son of former Shadow Home Secretary charged with 11 offences
James Abbott-Thompson, 28, the only son of Labour MP Diane Abbott, appeared in court on 1 January charged with nine assaults, including one on a police officer, and two counts of outraging public decency.
Abbott-Thompson was arrested outside the Foreign Office in Whitehall following an incident with an emergency worker. He was also charged with possession of a Class A drug, namely crystal meth, and possession of a knife.
Abbott-Thompson's arrest and subsequent court appearance come just months after it was revealed that he had crystal meth delivered to his £1.2 million home in north London while his mother was Shadow Home Secretary.
Abbott-Thompson's mother, Diane Abbott, is a long-serving Labour MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington. She has been a vocal critic of the government's austerity policies and has campaigned for a number of social justice causes.
