Team USA Edges Out South Sudan in Thrilling Olympic Exhibition
USA Overcomes 16-Point Deficit
Team USA narrowly avoided an embarrassing upset on Tuesday night, as they rallied from a 16-point deficit to defeat South Sudan 101-100 in an Olympic exhibition game in Paris.
South Sudan, the youngest nation to play international basketball, stunned the Americans by jumping out to a quick lead. The South Sudanese led by as many as 16 points in the second half, but Team USA slowly chipped away at the deficit and eventually took the lead for good with just over two minutes remaining.
Jalen Brunson led the way for Team USA with 24 points, while Jayson Tatum added 23 points and 10 rebounds. Wenyen Gabriel led South Sudan with 27 points.
