Mark Vientos Two Home Runs Including Walk Off Lift Mets To 6 4 Win Over Reds In Series Opener

Mark Vientos' heroics lift Mets to 6-4 walk-off win over Reds

Vientos' two home runs power Mets to victory

Mark Vientos' two home runs, including a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifted the New York Mets to a 6-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the series opener at Citi Field on Monday night.

Vientos' first home run, a two-run shot off Reds starter Luis Cessa in the third inning, gave the Mets an early 2-0 lead.

The Reds tied the game in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Jake Fraley off Mets starter David Peterson, but Vientos put the Mets back in front with a solo homer off reliever Alexis Díaz in the seventh.

Reds rally to tie game in eighth

The Reds rallied to tie the game again in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Matt Reynolds off Mets reliever Seth Lugo.

But Vientos came through again in the ninth, sending a 1-2 sinker from Reds closer Tony Santillan over the left-field wall for the game-winning home run.

Vientos' big night

Vientos finished the night 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and two walks.

It was the second multi-home run game of Vientos' career and his first walk-off home run.

Mets win fourth straight

The win was the Mets' fourth straight and improved their record to 19-25 on the season.

The Reds, meanwhile, have lost four straight and are now 17-27 on the season.

Up next

The Mets and Reds will continue their series on Tuesday night at Citi Field.

Taijuan Walker is scheduled to start for the Mets, while Hunter Greene is scheduled to start for the Reds.
